Vishay Precision Group (Malvern, PA) has announced that its Vishay Foil Resistors brand (VFR) has released a new series of high-precision foil surface-mount current sensing flip chip resistors with low TCR down to ±10 ppm/°C from -55° to +125°C, +25°C ref.; resistance down to 0.001 Ω; and tight tolerances to ±0.5%. Within this series, the RBH model is offered with a four-terminal Kelvin design. While typical current sensing resistors offer load-life stability of 0.5 percent through a 1,000-hour workload, the RB Series provides stability of ±0.05 percent at 70°C for 2,000 hours at rated power and screening options in accordance to MIL-PRF 55342 and MIL-PRF 49465 for enhanced reliability and performance in a range of applications, including precision current measurement.

The RB Series includes the RBD, RBF, and RBH resistors. Features include:

  • Power ratings of 0.5, 1, and 1.5 W, respectively, in compact case sizes.
  • Short time overload of ±0.03% (300 ppm).
  • Voltage coefficient of <0.1 ppm/V.
  • Non-inductive (<0.08 μH), non-capacitive design.
  • Resistance range from 0.001 to 1 Ω.

The RB Series, built on VFR's Bulk Metal Foil technology and developed by the company's R&D team in Japan, is specially suited for applications that require high precision and high stability. It provides a low and predictable TCR and excellent load-life stability, and allows for the production of customer-oriented products designed to satisfy challenging and specific technical requirements. The device’s flip chip configuration saves 35 percent on PCB space when compared to a surface-mount chip with wraparound terminations.
