Fairchild Semiconductor unveils its Model FAN2564 300-mA low-dropout (LDO) regulator that features efficiency, transient response and footprint size. It is a low input voltage LDO with the efficiency of a switcher-based solution, but in the footprint of an LDO. The regulator has a dropout of 100 mV, and it operates from supplies as low as 1.8 V, allowing the device to post-regulate from existing low voltage supplies in the system. By operating from a low VIN, the voltage drop across the LDO is reduced, resulting in high efficiency linear power conversion. This LDO consumes low quiescent current (45 µA at no load), and it delivers a fast transient response, enabling the application to be more resilient to fluctuations in load.
