Two power control solutions for stationary and portable electronic systems such as PCs, servers, laptops, and protected battery packs are introduced by Micrel Semiconductor. Power-switching solutions handling currents in excess of 3 A requires the use of external power FETs. The MIC2044/45 changes that by integrating an NMOS pass element with control circuitry into a TSSOP package to control load currents in excess of 6 A. Other features include 30 mΩ maximum ON-resistance; 0.8 V to 5.5 V operating range; 6 A continous output current; programmable current limit; power good detection; short circuit protection; and thermal shutdown.
