TriQuint announced two wideband attenuator integrated circuit types for millimeter wave digital radio, optoelectronic, and aerospace applications. The first is a high performance analog variable attenuator (TGL4203) and is suited for use as a gain control element in broadband fiber optic, aerospace, and digital radio applications. Also introduced is a precision fixed-value attenuator family (TGL4201-series). Technical specifications for the TGL4203 include: operating frequency: DC to 50 GHz; attenuation range: 0 to 17 dB; insertion loss: 2 dB; return loss: 15 dB; typical P-1dB (@15 GHz): +20 dBm; control voltages: 1 to 0 V. The TGL4203 measures 1.7 × 0.8 × 0.1 mm. The TGL4201 fixed attenuator family has technical specifications that include: operating frequency: DC to >40 GHz; attenuation values: 0, 2, 3, 6, 10 dB; return loss: >15 dB; power handling: >+28 dBm. The TGL4201 measures 0.5 × 0.5 × 0.1 mm. These devices are offered in chip form. Bond pad and backside metallization is gold plated for compatibility with eutectic alloy attachment methods as well as with thermocompression and thermosonic wire bonding.
