This dual mode broadband Fast Indirect Synthesizer (FIS) is introduced by Herley Industries (General Microwave). The FIS will cover a basic frequency range of 2 to 18 GHz with options to expand it to 0.5 to 20 GHz. Power output is +10 dBm, minimum. The FIS offers dual mode capability. In the free-running DTO mode , the specifications include fast settling time of 1 microsecond, modulation bandwidth of 10 MHz and a deviation bandwidth of 500 MHz, ± 5%, over the 2 - 18 GHz frequency range. In the phase-locked mode, the FIS is an indirect synthesizer with stability and accuracy equal to that of the 100 MHz external reference to which it is locked. The resolution is less than 1 MHz. At 10 GHz, the phase noise is typically 65 dBc/Hz @ 100 Hz offset, 75 dBc/Hz @ 1, 10 and 100 kHz offsets, 95 dBc/Hz @ 1 MHz offset, 120 dBc/Hz @ 10 MHz offset and 140 dBc/Hz @ 100 MHz offset. Harmonic and spurious signals are 55 dBc, maximum. Operating temperature range is 54 to +85°C.
