Thunderline Z has recently announced the release of their new surface mount feedthru. This feedthru, called a Bell Pin, has been developed to work with lightweight aluminum or brass housings, easily mounting to the bottom of the package creating true surface mountable parts with increased performance. Rated with a VSWR of less than 1.5:1 up to 15 GHz and offering true 50 ohm performance, this technique is the ideal solution to costly, heavy Kovar packaging problems. The Bell Pin SMT Feedthru is made with a gold plated Kovar base and center conductor fired in place with low loss corning glass. Advanced modeling techniques were used to achieve a very high 50 ohm frequency range compared to Kovar SMT housings. Hermetic reliability is exactly that of a round ferrule type feedthru. The device mounts easily by simply machining a thru hole and a counterbore semi circle in the bottom of a package. It's similar to machining a standard round ferrule feedthru.
