The SMP is specifically designed for lightning surge withstand and power cross protection of telecom circuits requiring low current protection with high surge tolerance. As such, Bel's new fuse is ideal for use in ISDN and analog telephones, fax machines, modems, answering machines, switching line cards, line test equipment and PBX equipment. It may additionally be specified for use in a wide range of DSL, general purpose, and primary and ballast protection applications. Measuring 0.38 inches (length) × 0.12 inches (height), the component's surface mount package provides significant PCB real estate savings over conventional axial leaded glass fuses, maximizes manufacturing throughput, and reduces OEMs' costs.
Fuse is UL Component Recognized (File E20624) for 500 mA and 1.25 A rating at 600 VAC/125 VDC, and features a power cross rating of 600 VAC at 2.2, 7, 40 and 60 A. Opening times range from 4 hours (minimum) at 100% to 300 ms (maximum) at 1000%. The SMP boasts lightning withstand ratings of 100 A, 10x1000 waveform, 100 repetitions; 500 A, 2500 V, 2x10 waveform, 40 repetitions; 500 A, 5000 V, 2x10 waveform, 4 repetitions. The fuse's operating temperature range is -50°C to +125°C.
