TelCom Semiconductor announced its first high-performance audio amplifier to its product portfolio. The device's MSOP package occupies half the space of a typical SOIC-8, making the TC4864 audio amplifier ideal for both cellular and cordless phones with tight space limitations that have low DC power sources (2.7 V minimum) available. This space saving device offers a high quality, low-distortion audio power driver that requires a minimal number of external components. The TC4864 simplifies overall system design, saves board space, lowers manufacturing costs and is well suited for notebooks or desktop computers, portable radios, hearing aids, and portable video games and toys.
The TC4864 operates over an input supply voltage range from 2.7 V to 5.5 V and is optimized for single supply operation. The TC4864 is able to deliver 300 mW of continuous average power into an 8-ohm load with less than 1% total harmonic distortion (THD) when powered from a 5 Volt DC source. The device extends the operating time of battery-powered systems by consuming as little as 0.1 uA (typical) in shutdown/mute mode. The TC4864 also operates without the need of external bootstrap capacitors or snubber networks whichnetworks, which minimize both system cost and printed circuit board space requirements.
