This week on WDD’s HotSpot:
- Sen.se is reinventing mothers with their home and family monitoring system. The system was recognized at CES as an Honoree of the 2014 CES Innovations Design and Engineering Awards. It is designed to monitor home and family life, connecting to home networks with an Ethernet port and coupled with accompanying mobile sensors called "Cookies" that detect location, movement and temperature. Sense Mother blends into your daily life to make it serene, healthy and pleasurable.
- Researchers from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Department of Physics and the Institut Catala de Nanociencia i Nanotecnologia, and with the participation of the Universitat de Barcelona, has been able to reproduce in particles measuring 10 to 20 nanometers a magnetic phenomenon of great importance in magnetic devices: Yes, we are talking about the antiferromagnetic coupling between layers. This phenomenon appears when coupling layers of materials with different magnetic properties, which allows controlling the magnetic behavior of the whole device. This property has very important technological applications. For example, it forms an important part of data reading systems found in hard drives and in the MRAM memories of computers and mobile devices.
- Redecorating can be a pain in-the-you-know-what sometimes, especially when it comes to choosing the right colors for the right space. You can be out walking around, see a certain color that you really like, but then when it comes time to match it, you can’t find that color. With the SwatchMate cube , you can capture any color of any surface. Then just place the Cube onto a surface to instantly capture the desired color.
- Skully helmets has created an augmented reality helmet, the Skully Ar-1, to help make riding a lot more safe. The helmet’s main feature is a voice-controlled heads-up display (HUD) that provides rear and side view video, bike data, GPS instructions, and phone and music utilities. With an advanced situational awareness system that displays navigation and blind spot data, riders are able to focus on the most important part of the ride - the road.
