Thin Film Electronics ASA announced that The World Technology Network (“WTN”) has selected Thinfilm as the winner of the prestigious World Technology Award for Materials. The award for visionary contribution to material science and technology was presented at the World Technology Summit 2012 Gala Awards ceremony at the Time & Life Building in New York on the evening of October 23rd.
The World Technology Network is a global association of over 1,000 peer-nominated, peer-elected most innovative people in science and technology elected annually through the World Technology Awards. The World Technology Awards are presented annually at the World Technology Summit to individuals and corporations achieving significant innovation and lasting progress in categories such as science, technology, the arts, and design. The awards are given in association with Time, Fortune, CNN, Science and The MIT Technology Review.
“Thin film Electronics joins an elite group of companies honored by The World Technology Network fellows,” says James P. Clark, the founder and CEO of The World Technology Network.
Thinfilm, the first to commercialize printed rewritable memory, is creating printed system products such as smart tags that include memory, sensing, display and wireless communication – at a dramatically lower cost than can be achieved with conventional silicon-based electronics. The key is using printing as the manufacturing process. This enables intelligence to be added to areas it has never been before, such as consumer products, packaging and other disposable goods.
“Thinfilm is delighted to win this award as it reflects the importance of our product vision and its role in catalyzing the Internet of Things. This recognition further confirms the significance of our work with Thinfilm’s ecosystem partners, especially PARC and Inktec,” says Davor Sutija, Thinfilm CEO.
Earlier in October, the Wall Street Journal named Thinfilm as runner-up for the Wall Street Journal Innovation Award in the Semiconductors and Electronics category. The recognition by the Wall Street Journal and World Technology Network follows important printed electronics industry awards earlier this year from both the FlexTech Alliance and IDTechEx . Thinfilm was also recently recognized by GigaOm as one of the 15 Most Innovative Companies in mobile.
