The Leica DISTO D810 touch - a handheld laser distance meter, and one of the finalists in the Bluetooth Breakthrough Awards 20014 - is among the demos on The wide breadth of applications on show at Mobile World Congress, powered by Nordic's Bluetooth Smart and ANT+ technology, illustrates the pervasive nature of ultra low power wireless connectivity

Barcelona, Spain - February 24, 2014 - Ultra low power (ULP) RF specialist Nordic Semiconductor ASA confirms details of exhibits, demonstrations, and partner companies that it will be hosting on its booth (Hall 6 Stand 6H20) at Mobile World Congress (MWC). MWC is the world's largest exhibition for the mobile industry and is organized by the GSM Association (GSMA). The event will be held in Barcelona, Spain, from February 24 to 27, 2014.

Nordic's theme for MWC is "Nordic is all around you" which underlines the rapid adoption of its nRF51 Series Bluetooth low energy and ANT+ solutions by companies across the globe for a diverse range of products. Several of these design partners will be demonstrating innovative "appcessories" based on Nordic's nRF51 Series multiprotocol Systems-on-Chip (SoC) at the exhibition.

Bluetooth low energy (marketed to consumers as Bluetooth Smart) and ANT+ are increasingly being utilized for short-range wireless connectivity between compact, coin cell-powered wireless accessories and Bluetooth v4.0 (Bluetooth Smart Ready)- or ANT+-equipped mobile device 'hubs' supporting associated software applications ('apps') to create these appcessories.

The design partners demonstrating on Nordic's booth at MWC are:

  • Kontakt ( The Polish computing hardware manufacturer and software services provider is a pioneer in developing proximity solutions based on Bluetooth low energy. At MWC the company will demonstrate a beacon built around Nordic's nRF51822.
  • Leica Geosystems ( The company is one of the world's leading providers of modern surveying solutions. Leica Geosystems will be exhibiting the Leica DISTO D810™ touch, a handheld laser distance meter. The device is also one of the finalists in the Bluetooth Breakthrough Awards 2014, the winners of which will be announced at MWC (Bluetooth Breakthrough Awards).
  • Blue Maestro ( The company is showing its Tempo Smart Temperature Sensor, that logs and time stamps temperature in its memory which users can access from their mobile devices. The company will also supply information on its patent-pending Bluetooth Smart Baby Pacifier which tracks a baby's temperature and location via the parent's smartphone via a free app.
  • Mio ( Mio ALPHA is the first and only sport watch to provide continuous, accurate heart rate monitoring without a chest strap. The product received the CES Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering Award. At MWC the company will show its latest product, the Mio Link, a heart rate monitor in a wristband that transmits continuous heart rate data to fitness apps and sport devices via both ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart.
  • Matilde ( The company is a design house working for a major Japanese glass brand player. The company will demonstrate Bluetooth Smart "Glasses" communicating with a smartphone notification and proximity alerts at the show.
  • Moff ( Moff is a start-up company from Japan producing interactive "smart" toy products providing an exciting play experience for children. The company will demonstrate an interactive toy with sound & voice effects using its own app.
  • 4iiii ( 4iiii is a leader in the design and manufacturing of wearable technology. The company's products are based on an innovative platform that provides field upgradeable sensors and Liiiink connectivity. They include Cliimb, the Sportiiiis heads-up audio visual data display and Viiiiva, a heart rate monitor that connects a full suite of sensors to a Smartphone. At MWC the company will show its new Liiiink product range that employs both ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart for use cases like activity tracking, heart rate, and alert notification.
  • Adidas miCoach ( miCoach is an interactive training service that brings the knowledge and experience of adidas' elite coaching partners to the masses, miCoach provides users with real-time coaching and all the tools they need to track performance and monitor progress. At MWC the company will demonstrate miCoach Speed_Cell and miCoach X_Cell - the first devices to provide athletes with a complete system to evaluate, train and improve speed, jump height, and reaction time.
  • GN ReSound ( ReSound LiNX is a hearing aid powered by SmartRange, an advanced 2.4-GHz wireless chip platform for the hearing aid industry. ReSound LiNX ( tackles challenges for the hearing impaired and is the world's first "Made for iPhone" hearing aid. ReSound LiNX offers direct, stereo sound streaming from Apple's mobile products - without an intermediate, body worn device.
  • Connectedevice ( CONNECTEDEVICE is a connected watch maker established in 2013. The COOKOO collection is the world's first analog connected watch. At MWC the company will demonstrate a solution that encompasses an ultra-small module (connected watch movement) based on a Nordic chipset that provides everything needed to create a connected watch that can communicate with iOS 7 and Android 4.3 platforms.
  • Dayton ( Dayton Industrial Co. Ltd is a leading developer and manufacturer in bike computers, and sport & fitness monitoring products. The company manufactured the first Bluetooth low energy heart rate monitor (HRM) platform, bike combo sensor, key fob, body scale and portable control display device (PCDD). Over half the ultra low power HRMs shipped globally last year were manufactured by Dayton.
  • OSM ( OSM specializes in delivering accessories that personalize, protect, and add functionality to products that enhance the way people interact with devices.
  • National ( National Electronics & Watch Co., Ltd. (NEWCO) was established in 1975. The company designs and develops wearable digital sport products such as HRMs and bike computers. At the show the company will demonstrate smart wrist-wearable GPS, smart optical heart rate, smart analog watch and smart gear with OLED display to track parameters such as calories burned, steps taken, fitness goals, and sleep patterns.
  • Airfy ( Berlin-based Airfy offers Bluetooth low energy beacons and Wi-Fi technology with a focus for retail applications. The demonstrations at MWC will show shop owners how to interact with customers using different apps.

"In the last several years we've seen our business evolve from one based on proprietary technology used in niche applications to one where that technology continues to play an important part but Bluetooth Smart and ANT+ show by far the most growth," says Geir Langeland, Nordic Semiconductor's Director of Sales & Marketing. "Each time we attend an exhibition such as MWC the reason for that dramatic growth becomes obvious; the capabilities of these interoperable technologies--coupled with our development tools which allow companies with little or no RF knowledge to take advantage of ultra low power wireless connectivity--is spawning an incredible range of innovative applications that are entering the market at an unprecedented rate."

MWC was inaugurated in 1987. In 2013, the exhibition featured over 72,000 attendees, 1,700 exhibitors, and 94,000m2 of exhibition and business meeting space.
