Rovi Corporation announced the launch of TotalCode, which is a new line of high-quality encoding solutions with advanced capabilities to help streamline the production and delivery of digital entertainment. Built on Rovi's industry-proven MainConcept codec technology, and including support for the latest adaptive streaming codecs, TotalCode is designed for post-production facilities and enterprise-class digital content providers such as broadcasters, cable
operators and digital storefront operators. The comprehensive TotalCode line also includes a solution for the desktop encoding market.
"TotalCode represents a solid addition to the digital entertainment market by helping define how production in this space can be handled as digital delivery becomes the standard for premium content consumption," said Corey Ferengul, EVP Products at Rovi Corporation. "With TotalCode, all parts of the digital entertainment industry, from acquisition
through to delivery, should now be able to take advantage of advanced video encoding technologies and workflows that have been refined and developed over the last decade and a half. For professionals in video post-production, disc authoring, online delivery and many other aspects of video content, TotalCode represents a powerful encoding solution."
TotalCode Enterprise brings professional-level capabilities to the enterprise-class multi-format encoder industry. The solution features a scalable, server-distributed encoding architecture and supports a wide range of standards-compliant streams for digital distribution and broadcast platforms, including Rovi-powered entertainment stores. In
addition, a flexible client-side control is provided via command-line, web client or integration into a custom application. As forecast by In-Stat, the worldwide revenue for the enterprise-class multi-format encoder industry is projected to grow from $117M in 2009 to $297M in 2014.
TotalCode Professional provides the content creation industry with high-quality mastering-level control, including the ability to segment re-encode in any digital delivery format. The segment re-encoding feature saves time by allowing select portions of a completed project to be re-encoded and fine-tuned.
TotalCode Studio provides users access to TotalCode's vast codec library in an easy-to-use desktop encoding application for multimedia professionals, authoring facilities and broadcasters.
TotalCode line includes an extensive library of video and audio codecs that support the formats used in various aspects of acquisition, storage, delivery and playback across platforms, including broadcast/cable TV, digital storefronts, mobile devices and optical disc players. Special features such as segment re-encoding (available in TotalCode Professional) and the patented ExpressQC efficiency tool enhance productivity while helping achieve the best possible results.
Built on a unified platform that facilitates seamless workflows and the interchange of encoding presets, the entire TotalCode line is designed for easy customization and integration with existing production workflows.
TotalCode will be available through Rovi-authorized resellers by the end of October 2011. Rovi will demonstrate TotalCode at IBC 2011 in Hall 5, Stand A31.
