Meaghan's Minute: Wireless Power Transfer

Today on Meaghan's Minute, brought to you by Memory Protection Devices, researchers from North Carolina State University have developed new technology and techniques for transmitting power wirelessly from a stationary source to a mobile receiver – moving engineers closer to their goal of creating highway “stations” that can recharge electric vehicles wirelessly as they drive by.

According to the university, changes were made to both the receiver and the transmitter to make wireless energy transfer safe and more efficient.

Currently, at peak efficiency, the new system can transmit energy at a rate of 0.5 kilowatts, with the team reaching for the 50 kilowatt role.
