This week on WDD’s HotSpot, brought to you by Memory Protection Devices:
- A recent Kickstarter campaign, MiiPC, allows parents to monitor and control what their kids are doing online via a parental control mobile app. The MiiPC provides real-time information about what is being done online, and by whom.
- Facebook’s recently announced Home, an app launcher replacement, will run on select Android phones, along with its flagship phone the Facebook-branded HTC First.
- A new release by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office might just provide a glimpse of the future of Apple's popular iPhone handset. The product detailed in the patent, features a flexible AMOLED display “rolled up” and placed inside a conical transparent enclosure.
- Researchers from the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology in Japan have created the “smelling screen”, which was recently presented at the IEEE Virtual Reality 2013 conference. The smelling screen uses four fans positioned at the corners of the screen to create a virtual odor source that appears to come from a specific area of the display.
