Increased Range for Low-Power Wireless Networks

Texas Instruments (Dallas, TX) [NASDAQ: TXN] has introduced the SimpleLink CC2592 range extender that provides up to a 7x improvement in range when paired with TI’s 2.4 GHz low power RF solutions for ZigBee, 802.15.4, 6LoWPAN and Bluetooth low energy networks. The first launched pairing is the CC2592 with the SimpleLink ZigBee CC2538 wireless microcontroller (MCU) to speed time to market of ZigBee-enabled equipment. The combined solution benefits from -101 dBm sensitivity and +20 dBm output power, which raises the link budget by 17 dB and equates to up to a 7x range improvement. Features of the SimpleLink CC2592 include:

  • An operational temperature range from -40 to 125°C.
  • Less passive devices in BOM.
  • A 4x4 QFN package.
