Conformal Coating Mitigates Tin Whisker Formation

DYMAX Dual-Cure 9481 cures in seconds to protect delicate circuitry on tin solder joints. Conformal coatings are recommended for retarding whisker growth, which can lead to catastrophic device failure. DYMAX 9481, with a high cured durometer, is especially useful for prolonging device longevity. The low viscosity is ideal for spray application through manual or automated dispensing systems. The flow characteristics have been designed to ensure fast coverage without migration to areas where protection is not needed.

9481 cures in seconds upon exposure to UV/Visible light and exhibits excellent adhesion to PCB surfaces. The cured coating forms a transparent layer which protects underlying circuitry and components from moisture, dust, and other contaminants. Process cost reduction is achieved as a result of cure cycles typically less than five seconds.

Like other DYMAX coatings, 9481 is a durable resin with excellent electrical properties, and meets the most common industry specifications, including MIL-I-46058C and IPC-CC-830B. 9481 has extremely high chemical resistance, providing superior protection in severe service environments.
