Landing 29th on the list, the EnerSys® battery manufacturing facility in Hays, KS was recognized among the “2009 Quality Leadership 100” for its focus on quality manufacturing by Quality Magazine™. This year, there were more than 800 companies that applied.

"We work rigorously on building quality into our processes to produce batteries specialized for Reserve Power applications. We are extremely proud to be selected for this honor and to rank within the top third,” said Malcolm Gavant, vice president, Reserve Power Operations in North America.

The EnerSys Hays facility specializes in PowerSafe® and DataSafe® batteries. PowerSafe GN batteries serve as the main emergency back-up power sources for nuclear reactor controls. The Hays plant is the only EnerSys facility that produces this particular battery. The other EnerSys battery line manufactured in the Hays facility is DataSafe, which are flooded lead acid batteries for telecommunications, uninterruptible power systems (UPS), and utility switchgear and control applications.

EnerSys employs 202 trained specialists in its 375,000 square-foot Hays facility. More than half of these employees have been building batteries at this facility for more than 10 years. EnerSys Hays manufactures lead-acid product types for Wireline and Wireless telecomm, uninterruptible power source (UPS) for computer systems and security, and protection power for switchgear systems. Constructed to last, certain types of batteries are designed to be used in their applications for 20 years. EnerSys Hays has been NSAI ISO-9001 certified since 1994 and ISO-14001 certified since 2001.
