Sensor Switches Reduce Power Consumption

Diodes Incorporated introduces its micro-power AH1802 and AH1888, two low-voltage, omnipolar, Hall-Effect sensor switches that reduce power consumption in battery-powered hand-held devices, and they simplify production processes. Applications include contact-less lid or display orientation and position detection tasks in notebooks, mobile phones, digital still cameras and camcorders. The switches operate over a wide supply voltage range, and within an operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. The devices detect the magnetic field generated by the north and south poles, removing the need for production processes that manage magnet orientation. In the presence of a local magnetic field, the sensor produces a low level "on" output signal. Both devices support a broad variety of battery cell configurations from single-cell lithium ion to dual-cell alkaline/zinc.
