Quad VGA Provides 24 dB Gain Range

Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) introduces its AD8264 quad-channel VGA (variable-gain amplifier), a highly integrated device for PET (positron emission tomography) scanners, communication systems and advanced video equipment. It integrates four ADC drivers, enabling the reduction of the printed-circuit board area and layout simplification by replacing eight components with a single device. This high-speed device has a single-ended output for wide-bandwidth applications, and auxiliary differential ADC drivers that operate with proprietary data converters. This quad VGA is also suited for wireless infrastructure equipment where its four DC-coupled channels and precise gain control allow communication systems designers to adjust output-signal levels, eliminating the time and cost associated with matching four discrete VGAs. Each channel comprises a high-impedance preamplifier, a high-speed VGA and a differential output amplifier.
