Silicon Protection Arrays Protect Against ESD Surges

Littelfuse, Inc. announced its SP3000 Series of electrostatic discharge (ESD) over-voltage suppression devices for data lines and interface circuits in a range of equipment. Applications include PCs and PC peripherals, hand-held devices, adapter cards and data communications equipment, including USB2.0 and IEEE1394 devices. The series uses a steering diode architecture with an integral Zener diode that is fabricated with silicon avalanche technology, protecting each I/O line by routing potentially destructive surge currents to ground. The steering diodes reduce the overall off-state capacitance to an ultra-low level which is also more stable with variations in signal voltage and frequency than typical ESD protection devices. The result is high-level protection with minimal distortion at data rates up to 1 GHz or higher.
