Single Chip HSPA Offers Advanced On-Chip Multimedia Features

NXP Semiconductors announces its small, single-core, dual-mode Nexperia cellular multimedia baseband PNX6712 for HSPA and EDGE. Based on 65 nm process technology, it offers advanced on-chip multimedia features such as H.264 decoding on QVGA at 30 frames per second (fps). The PNX6712 forms the engine of Nexperia cellular system 6712, a powerful HSDPA/HSUPA/EDGE platform. The system combines advanced multimedia features, up to 750 hours of standby, 45 hours of MP3 and eight hours of video playback, and connectivity options for anytime, anywhere content transfer. The system provides a platform for high-performance multimedia phones with a flexible architecture that is built around an ARM926-EJ processor, algorithms for voice and video, hardware accelerated low-power video, graphics and camera features, and built-in security and digital rights management.
