Moving Forward in 2007

Editor-in-Chief
This month I decided to do a little something different in this space. In stead of sounding off about an opinion I have on a certain topic, I decided to use this forum to bring you up-to-date on some of the exciting things we have been working on at WD&D. These items include a launch, a significant website redesign, a new department inside the magazine and a totally new editorial and advertising opportunity.

For the past several months, we have been anxiously awaiting the completion of our website redesign. Well that time has finally come. On February 5, 2007 it became a reality. The new WD&D website offers fresh and expanded content and easy navigation. On the homepage you will find links to the current issue, latest releases and feature articles. The feature articles are now located in one of five Technology Channels: Power, Test & Measurement, Integrated Circuits, Embedded Systems and Unlicensed Technologies. In addition, there are links to the Test & Measurement BlogWire, Buyers Guide, Technology Awards, Industry News, Technology supplements, Digital Edition Archive and E-Newsletter Archive.

Later in the month we will launch our first event as part of the WD&D Design Network. The purpose of the WD&D Design Network is to provide need-to-know information to electronic design engineers in a format that is useful, relevant and concise. Every week the Design Network will premier a new, 15 minute tutorial-focused, audio/video presentation on a topic of interest to wireless designers. Sessions will be presented by industry experts and will cover basic and advanced information. Each presentation will be archived immediately for convenient, on-demand viewing at anytime. Our sister publication, ECN magazine, launched its Design Center last year. If you would like to view a Design Center in full swing or perhaps view a tutorial, you can visit www.ecndesignnetwork.com.

You will notice as you go through this month’s issue that a new department has been added to the magazine. Compliance Update will include a series of articles on FCC compliance issues, mandates, changes, revisions etc. This month’s article entitled "Unlicensed Communications Products and the FCC" is written by two prominent attorneys from the Venable LLP law firm in Washington, DC. Frederick M. Joyce, Esq. is Chair of the Communications Group at Venable LLP. His telecommunications practice includes domestic and international regulations and treaties, appellate and civil litigation matters, and state/federal telecommunications legislation, with a particular emphasis on wireless communications and new technologies. Ronald E. Quirk, Jr., Esq. focuses his practice on telecommunications regulation and policy, and federal administrative work. He has particular experience in regulatory compliance matters pertaining to radio frequency devices, including RFID.

So now you are up to date. I hope you will set aside a few minutes to visit www.wirelessdesignmag.com and see first hand the changes that have been made. Keep in mind that this is a work in progress and will be continuously revised to meet your changing needs.
