A new module for building ZigBee wireless networks has been launched by Telegesis. The ETRX2 is a low-power transceiver that can be embedded in a wide range of devices to produce self-organizing, self-healing wireless meshes. Incorporating the new single-chip EM250 ZigBee system from Ember, the devices offer developers a means for bringing advanced wireless-enabled products to market. Telegesis provides an AT-style command line interface for the modules, which is similar in style to that used to control dial-up modems. Based on the EmberZNet2.2 mesh stack, this interface makes it easy for those not expert in ZigBee wireless network technology to develop applications without the use of complex software engineering. Also available are ETRX2 development kits, which enable demonstration and in-depth assessment of a working ZigBee mesh.
