Connor-Winfield introduces their latest generation of synch modules - the SM3. The SM3 is a system clock module for Stratum 3 timing card applications, shared port adapters, data digital cross connects, SDH and SONET switches and routers, and ADM's. This module provides a Stratum 3 clock output, four "auto-detect" reference inputs from 8 kHz to 77.76 MHz, and operates in manual or autonomous modes with frequency qualification. The module incorporates hitless switching between references, and the hold over function guarantees a maximum of .37 ppm in the first 24 hours. The SM3 module is 1.5 sq inches in area and .2 inches in height. Operating at 3.3 V, it draws less than 500 mW of power over the commercial temperature range. One output can go up to 51.84 MHz with low jitter, less than 3 ps RMS in the SONET bandwidth. Another output can be selected for T1 or E1 frequencies. The third output is 8 kHz and can be used to cross connect to another module for master/slave alignment control.
