DuPont Microcircuit Materials (MCM) introduces a ceramic solution for embedding resistors and capacitors in PWBs. The Interra™ material system enables circuit board manufacturers to embed high tolerance and reliable thick film resistors along with high density capacitors within the layers of multilayer boards using a simple and cost-effective process. The Interra EP20x series ceramic embedded resistor system — based on a nitrogen-firing lanthanum boride (LaB6) conductive phase — enables combining the stable and reliable performance of ceramic resistor pastes with the miniaturization of printed circuit boards. Embedded resistors are encapsulated with a ceramic-filled epoxy coating to provide a backing, which allows laser trimming without damage to the underlying substrate, such as FR4, and achieving initial tolerances of better than 2%.
