Low Noise VCO for Wireless Internet Systems

Mon, 05/06/2002 - 7:16am
Z-Communications recently introduced the SMV2560A, a surface mount low profile package VCO for Wireless Internet systems. This compact performer has been specially engineered so that integration into PLLs remains quick and easy. The SMV2560A will generate frequencies between 2535 and 2675 MHz within a control voltage range of 0.4 to 2.9 V DC, allowing the error voltage to be taken directly from the IC's charge pump circuitry. This VCO also saves valuable PCB space through its subminiature size measuring 0.3× 0.3× 0.08.

While covering a broad bandwidth, the SMV2560A is able to realize a spectral purity of 㫬 dBc/Hz, typically, at 10 kHz from the carrier. It is specified to operate over the extended commercial temperature range of 㫀°C to 85°C. This low powered device further saves energy by drawing 21 mA of current from a 3 V DC supply while providing the end user 7 ۭ dBm of output power into a 50 Ω load and suppresses the second harmonic to better than 㪤 dBc.
