Low Dropout Linear Regulator

Mon, 05/06/2002 - 7:16am
Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1819, a 500 mA low-dropout linear regulator. This device fits in a 0.5 mm pitch, 6-pin UCSP™ package, which measures 2.3 mm squared and is 0.65 mm high. The MAX1819 delivers a guaranteed 500 mA load with 133 mV of dropout.

The MAX1819 operates from a 2.5 V to 5.5V supply. The high-accuracy (۫%) output voltage is preset to popular voltages (1.5 V, 1.8 V, 2 V, 2.5 V, 3.3 V, and 5 V) or can be adjusted from 1.25 V to 5.5 V with an external resistive divider.

An internal PMOS pass transistor allows the low, 125 microamps supply current to remain independent of load, extending battery life in portable equipment such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), cellular phones, cordless phones, digital cameras, and notebook computers. Supply current is further reduced to 0.1 microamp in logic-controlled shutdown.
