Gryphics released their surface mount technology contact design for a family of 0.8 mm - 1.27 mm pitch, high performance BGA sockets that provide up to 13 GHz performance at < 1 dB. The stamped and formed contacts are spice-model and measurement supported, have small standard footprints, straight through designs, and short lead-times. The contact design also offers some unique and beneficial design attributes. The tweezer-style tines provide cutting edges that gently cradle the ball while cutting through solder oxides. The contact also has a board-side feature for reaching into existing solder mask on both solder-plated and gold-plated boards. The sockets can be configured with 3 standard cover designs: a hinged with adjustable device press, a bolt down heat-sink, or bolt down with probe access.
