Transceiver Development Kit

RF Monolithics, Inc. (RFM) announced the introduction of the DR2000-DK development kit for the 916.5 MHz TR1000 amplifier-sequenced hybrid (ASH) transceiver. The DR2000-DK demonstrates the integration of the TR1000 with a low-cost digital signal processor (DSP). The DSP implements a high performance link-layer protocol which can operate at data rates from 2,400 to 115,200 bps. The DR2000-DK can be operated using a conventional terminal program such as Hyperterm, Telex, etc. The DR2000-DK can also be used for range testing without a host computer by selecting the built-in test function.

The DR2000-DK kit includes two transceiver nodes, RS232 interface cables and a manual. The DR2000-DK is a demonstration and development tool for the TR1000. The TR1000 is intended for use in products operating under FCC 15.249 regulations in the United States and RSS-210 6.2.2 regulations in Canada. The TR1000 is characterized for operation at data rates up to 19,200 bps using on-off keyed modulation and up to 115,200 bps using amplitude-shift keyed modulation. The TR1000 receiver uses a wide dynamic range log detector in combination with a digital AGC and compound data slicer to provide robust channel capture characteristics. Two stages of SAW filtering in the receiver signal path also provide excellent out-of-band interference rejection, and SAW filtering of the transmitter output makes certification of the TR1000 to FCC and Canadian regulations straightforward. The TR1000 is housed in a ceramic-metal hybrid package only 0.27 × 0.40 × 0.08 inches in size, making "watch size" applications practical.
