Low Cost EMI Filter

Fri, 03/08/2002 - 3:55am
Syfer Technology's Integrated Passive Component (IPC) is a new three terminal electromagnetic interference filter device featuring cancellation of radio frequency noise, rather than reflection of the signals to ground. The unique new multilayer electrode and dielectric architecture provides simultaneous line-to-line and line-to-ground EMI filtering, using a single surface mountable ceramic chip, thus providing superior performance while reducing cost. The EMI filter is capable of replacing 2 or more conventional capacitors and in-line inductors in many EMC applications. Standard EMI filters are available in size 0603, 0805, 1206, 1410, 1812 and 2220 with voltage ratings for 16 volts, 50 volts, 25 volts and 100 volts. Line-to-ground capacitance values range from 10 picofarad to 1.2 microfarad providing excellent insertion loss beyond one gigahertz. Initial electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) applications of the IPC include DC motor noise suppression, wireless communication, balanced lines and sensor electromagnetic interference noise reduction.
