Spectrum Analyzers for Remote Base Stations

Wed, 02/27/2002 - 9:34am
Morrow Technologies has announced a new vector spectrum analyzer that enables an instrument to be permanently mounted in a cellular base station. The VC900 gives a service provider continuous remote access to important base station parameters such as adjacent channel power ratio, channel power, and statistical power measurements, as well as standard spectrum analyzer functions. The analyzer can also perform modulation domain measurements such as polar plots, eye diagrams, rho, and code channel power.

The VC900 covers the 800 to 1000 MHz cellular bands and can be configured with three inputs for monitoring three sectors of a base station. The analyzer can be operated remotely via LAN, telephone modem, wireless modem, or the Internet. All of these communication methods are supported internally by the VC900 with no other third party hardware or software. The analyzer can also activate alarm contacts when a monitored parameter is no longer within specified limits. An optional internal calibrator automatically maintains long-term measurement accuracy.

Virtual front panel software gives a remote operator complete access and control of all the functions of the VC900. Additionally, any number of operators can access the same instrument simultaneously. This includes the ability for a service technician at the base station to simply plug in a laptop computer and see the same display as a remote operator. The VC900 measure 6.75× 9.75× 3.125.
