Processors for Handheld Devices

Intel introduces two processors based on Intel® Xscale™ microarchitecture for handhelds and data-enabled cell phone and wireless devices.

The PXA250 for advanced PDAs features the high performance, low power XScale core at 200, 300 and 400 MHz. The processor exhibits micro-power management through low power modes and application acceleration with Turbo mode. The processor has MMC/SD and PCMCIA/CF card support for expandable storage and I/O devices. It features a variety of comm-ports, like USB for fast host synchronization, fast 1.84 MHz baseband interface and Bluetooth™ I/F @ 920 kbs. The enhanced memory controller supports lower power/cost 2.5 V and 3.3 V 16/32-bit memories. The processor is 17 × 17 mm, and is housed in a 256-pin PBGA package.

The PXA210 for multimedia phones features a low power XScale core for scalable performance at 133 - 200 MHz. The processor exhibits micro-power management to extend battery life and MMC/SD support for expandable storage and I/O devices. The device's wireless connectivity consists of fast 1.84 MHz baseband interface and Bluetooth I/F @ 920 kbs. The processor's enhanced memory controller supports lower power/cost 2.5 V and 3.3 V 16-bit memories.
