Detect Switch

Mon, 02/04/2002 - 3:31am
Totally protected against overload, the KSU top-actuated ultra-miniature detect switch from ITT Industries, Cannon features a light actuation force of 0.7 N without tactile effect. It has a hard metal actuator, two large terminals, normally-open contacts, gold or silver contact plating and a long life rating of over 500 k operations. In addiion, the switches have been designed to be compatible with surface mount processes and as a result are suitable for infrared soldering processes, pick and place machines and are delivered on plastic packaging reels of 1500 parts. The switches find applications in a variety of handheld electronic equipment including mobile phones, battery or memory cartridges, PDAs and LCD screens, amongst others. KSU switches are also used as tamper switches in alarms or in electronic enclosures. CD, CD-ROM, DVD players and other consumer electronics also benefit from the small size of these switches.

KSU switches with silver contacts handle 2.5 VA power with maximum voltage of 50 V and maximum current of 50 mA, while switches with gold contacts handle lower power of 0.5 VA with a maximum voltage of 50 V and maximum current of 10 mA. Both offer a contact resistance of less than 100 milliohms, bounce rating of under 3 ms, travel to make of 0.5 mm ± 0.25 mm with a total travel of 1.5 mm. Silver contacts offer an operating temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius, while gold contacts cater for a temperature range of -40 to 125 degrees Celsius. Dielectric strength is 250 VDC.
