Tooling for Connectors

FCI has a dedicated division responsible for the design, development, production and service of sophisticated customer application machines and tooling. The division supports FCI's various connector products and systems. The machine range covers various applications including crimp, IDC, fiber optic connections, and press-fit tools to the most advanced fully automated press-fit connector insertion lines for backpanel assembly. FCI recently launched its IMPRESS 2000XL line plus external component feeder, a new innovative automatic insertion line for backpanel assembly; IMPRESS 1000XXL, a semi-automatic step-and-repeat press with motor driven xy-table; and IMPRESS 500E, a hand operated servo motor driven C-frame press. The IMPRESS machines will insert any press fit connector from any manufacturer. They will insert headers and receptacles in either vertical or right angle configurations.

The new IMPRESS 2000XL line plus External Component Feeder was designed as a pick-and-place machine to insert up to ten different connector types into a single backplane or daughter board. The modular approach makes it easy to strip the machine to a semi-automatic step-and-repeat press or to upgrade it to a fully automatic in-line production center with automatic board handling and component feeder.

IMPRESS 1000XXL is a new semi-automatic step-and-repeat press for press-fit connector insertion. The machine is equipped with a motor driven xy-table which positions the backplane, or the daughter board, under the motor driven press.

The IMPRESS 500E is a servo-motor driven C-frame, hand operated press that comes with a variety of options. These options include a rising post anvil and an LMT servo-driven xy-table that assists the operator in exact table positioning for accurate insertions.
