Bluetooth Radio Transceiver

Thu, 11/29/2001 - 8:39am
Ericsson Microelectronics announces Bluetooth™ v1.1 qualification, the latest Bluetooth standard, for its PBA 31301/3 radio transceiver.

The radio transceiver combines robust performance in radio-intensive environments and low power consumption, making it ideal for battery operated applications. A plug-and-play Class 2 radio, the PBA 31301/3 is designed for cable replacement and other Bluetooth communication links. It needs only an antenna, a 13 MHz reference frequency crystal, and digital control functionality and firmware to produce a complete Bluetooth link. The radio facilitates rapid time to market for new electronic products.

Targeted at OEMs who develop, manufacture and market mobile electronic products, the main application areas are mobile phones and accessories, PDAs, laptop computers and other portable products. In all of these applications Bluetooth provides connectivity without cable clutter.

The PBA 31301/3 is a complete solution to one of the major problems facing designers when implementing Bluetooth technology: how to cost-effectively manufacture RF products in volume.

The radio is self-shielded and mechanically robust - features that reduce end-product manufacturing costs. It operates flawlessly in RF-rich environments, including those where wireless LAN technologies such as IEEE 802.11b networks are present.
