Tracewell Systems has introduced a VME64x version of its S31 system chassis for commercial, industrial and COTS/military applications. This compact economical design at just 8U overall, supports 8 system boards plus transition modules and up to 5 peripheral devices. Rigid steel and aluminum construction provide a package well suited for higher stress and EMI environments. The new S31 for VME64x provides the systems designer a solution that combines the robustness and universality of VME64x with the quality, reliability, and attention to detail that are uniquely Tracewell.

The S31's 64-bit VME64x backplane is compatible with all VME types, including VME32, VME64 & VME64 extensions. All major components are quickly accessible for ease of configuration and service. Removing just four screws allows the entire rear subrack assembly to slide from the chassis, providing unrestricted access to the backplane and all internal DC wiring.

A front plugging service module supports power, cooling and monitoring, and a front storage module provides up to five drive bays. High-pressure axial fans effectively distribute airflow throughout the chassis. The space-conscious Tracewell S31 is ideal for rack mounting or bench-top operation. A system monitor verifies power supply output voltages and cooling fan speed, and advanced design and manufacturing minimizes fasteners while providing EMI control without the need for costly gasketing.

Tracewell's rigid steel cardcage improves airflow and eliminates flexing common to extruded rail designs, while meeting all IEEE 1101.10/11 standards. It is compliant with ANSI/VITA 1.1-1997. S31 for VME64x like all Tracewell products may be adapted per Tracewell's ABC Modification Program to support customer specific requirements including board-level integration.
