A low profile 1 W isolated DC-DC converter is now available from C&D Technologies. These converters will help designers isolate or convert DC power rails in rack-mounted industrial and telecommunications PCBs and other applications where height is restricted.

The new low-profile NKE DC-DC converters are single output devices supplied in a miniature DIP package that combines an industry standard pin-out with a height of 5.4 mm (0.21) and a board-mounted footprint of 9.8 mm × 11.5 mm (0.38× 0.45). Devices for 3 V, 5 V, and 12 V inputs are available, while output options are 3.3, 5, 9, 12, and 15 V. In all cases isolation between input and output is rated at 3 kV DC.

Offering a power density of 1.64 W/cm³ (26.9 W/inch³), the low profile NKE series simplify PCB layout by delivering their full 1 W performance at temperatures of between -40°C and +85°C without requiring a heatsink or other external cooling. An internal SMD construction that uses multilayer ceramic capacitors rather than electrolytic or tantalum alternatives contributes to an MTTF of up to 2.4 million hours.
