Low Dropout Regulators

The first two devices in a new generation of micropower CMOS low dropout regulators (LDOs) for battery-powered applications are now available from Micrel Semiconductor. Featuring the industry's best performance in terms of dropout, transient response and noise, the MIC5255 and MIC5256 expand Micrel's growing line of 150mA micropower LDOs in IttyBitty™ SOT-23 packaging.

These micropower regulators are ideal for portable RF applications. In operation, the MIC5255/6 draws only 90 uA and "zero" current in the off-mode. The MIC5255/6 also offers best-in-class dropout voltage (135mV @ 150mA), load transient response (output settles in < 10us from a change in load), and noise performance. Optimized for ultra-low-noise performance, the MIC5255 features a noise bypass pin to further reduce the output noise to 30 uVrms. The MIC5256 provides an error flag to indicate detection of an over-current, thermal shutdown, or dropout condition.

Applications include cellular phones & pagers, cellular phone accessories, battery-power equipment, laptop, notebook & palm computers.
