Lithium Manganese Dioxide Cell

Tue, 10/30/2001 - 8:03am
A new Lithium Battery/Manganese Dioxide coin cell (li/MnO2), designated ML614, has been introduced by Maxell Corporation of America to provide cellular telephone memory backup for telephones that utilize a real time clock (RTC). Most multi-function telephones capable of more than just making and receiving calls use a real time clock, particularly when the telephone is specifically designed to display both the time and date.

Because the ML614 is recharged from the main cellular telephone battery, it is not consumer replaceable and is expected to operate for the full life of the telephone.

The ML614 rechargeable lithium manganese dioxide cell measures 6.8 mm in diameter by 1.4 mm in height, weighs just 0.16 grams, and produces 3 volts with nominal capacity of 4 mAh. The cell is capable of up to 1500 shallow charge and discharge cycles and is rated to operate at temperatures form -20 to +60 degrees C.
