ON Semiconductor announced a new three-phase step down controller, compliant with Intel's latest VRM (voltage regulator module) specification. With single-wire current sharing capability and feature-rich architecture, the CS5305, saves board space, simplifies CPU power supply design for high-performance microprocessors and lowers overall design and manufacturing cost.

Like ON Semiconductor's other three-phase power controllers, the CS5305 uses enhanced V2™ control architecture to accurately balance the current in each phase. The operating switching frequency can be set from 200 kHz to 800 kHz. The result is faster transient response, superior line and load regulation characteristics. The company designed the CS5305 with three-phase V2 switching technology, reducing ripple on the input and output such that lower value external inductors enabling designers to use less-expensive capacitors.
