Micro DC/DC Converter
The Micro DC/DC chip accepts input voltages between 3.0V-5.5V and provides an adjustable output from 0.8 V to 3.0VDC at 350 mA, with a typical output ripple of only 20 mVp-p. The Micro DC/DC Converter is currently available in production quantity in the buck converter only. Engineering samples of four other device configurations-boost 1, boost 2, buck boost and inverting-are available now, and will be in full production next year. The device's ultra compact package typically measures only 5.7 mm (0.225 inches) long by 4.2 mm (0.165 inches) wide by 2.35 mm (0.093 inches) height, maximum.
Taiyo Yuden's advanced materials science and semiconductor mounting technology incorporate precise flip chip bonding with micron level control to achieve extremely small physical packaging, precise high-density component mounting and compatibility with standard tape-and-reel dispensers. Taiyo Yuden's product roadmap for the Micro DC/DC product calls for continued significant miniaturization. Next-generation Micro DC/DC Converters will offer up to a 500% increase in power-to-size ratio (100W/cc) by the third quarter of 2002. An intermediate stage, to be announced in April of next year, will double the power output by volume of today's component to 40W per cubic centimeter.
