Several leading drive manufacturers have introduced products capable of returning regenerated power to the AC supply via impedance-matching line reactor units, creating the need for very specialized EMC filters. Working in collaboration with these manufacturers, Schaffner developed the FN 3100 filter specifically for this type of application.
Capable of handling power in both directions, the filter combines exceptional noise suppression (the fast-switching semiconductors in regenerative drives produce considerable electrical noise) with the ability to smooth the returned power waveform, making it suitable for distribution to other drives or back to generation utility.
The FN 3100 can handle voltages of up to 520 V AC and is available with a choice of 35 A, 50 A, 80 A, 110 A, 150 A, 200 A, and 300 A current ratings, enabling users to easily select the optimum filter for their particular application. All FN 3100 filters are packaged in slimline housings that are easily accommodated in drive cabinet, by way of example, the 50 A model is 80 mm wide by 185 mm high, and has a depth of 300 mm.
