Surface Mount Inductor

Mon, 08/20/2001 - 5:11am
Responding to demands for higher current devices compatible with today's powerful microprocessors, BI Technologies recently introduced a molypermalloy powder (MPP) based family of surface mount inductors capable of handling up to 40 amps. Designated the HM73 Series, the self-shielding inductors are available in 16 standard ratings from 1.0μH to 8.2μH, in a surface mount package.

Despite their higher power ratings, the HM73 Series features a unique design using ultrathin rectangular wires. This feature makes the conductor density of the coil more than 20% higher than that of round core wires and provides lower DC resistance and higher efficiency.

The HM73 Series inductors are available in sixteen standard ratings, ranging from 0.1μH to 8.2μH, and from 6 A to 40 A. (Inductance measured at 100 KHz, 0.1 V). The devices feature a DC resistance ranging from .08 mΩ to 15.2 mΩ, based on ratings. Operating temperature range for the HM73 Series is -40°C to +125°C. The low profile package is compatible with high speed automatic placement equipment and vapor phase and IR reflow soldering methods.
