Surface Mount Chip Resistor

Providing design engineers with a space-saving alternative to bulky wirewounds, IRC has developed a series of surface mount resistors available in standard and non-standard values capable of dissipating up to 3 watts at 70°C. Designated the SC3 Series, these thick-film resistors are less inductive than typical wirewound devices and require 75 percent less board space.

The SC3 Series rectangular chips are terminated on the long side, giving them a unique reverse geometry. These wider terminations allow the use of wider board traces, which reduce solder joint resistance and thus enable the resistor to carry higher current at a lower overall temperature. The SC3 Series resistors are ideal for use in a variety of applications including power supplies, programmable controls and computers.

The ceramic-based resistors feature a proprietary copper ink thick film system with a polymer overcoat. Rated for 3 W @ 70°C, the SC3 Series features resistance values as low as 1 ohms to 350 ohms with tolerances down to ± 1% and TCR's to ± 100ppm/ °C. Inductance is less than 3 nH. They are rated for operation from -55°C to 150°C.
