di/dt, Inc., the new technology leader in DC/DC power conversion, today announces the QL48 family of DC/DC converters, the industry's first quarter-bricks designed specifically to power low voltage silicon devices in telecommunications, data communications and server applications. These 30 A converters provide high-efficiency single stage conversion directly from a 48 V bus to sub volt levels, thus eliminating the cost, board space, and efficiency penalty that results from a two step conversion, first down to an intermediate 5 V or 3.3 V and then to voltages of 1.2 V or less. The QL48 converters are available in standard output voltages of 1.2 V, 1.0 V, and 0.8 V, and deliver a full 30 A of output current with no derating up to ambient temperatures of 70°C at an airflow of only 100 LFM. Like di/dt's existing Q Series of DC/DC converters, currently in production, the QL48 converters come in an open-frame package that does not require a heatsink. They have dimensions of 1.45 inches× 2.3 inches (36.8 mm × 58.4 mm), with a height as low as 0.26 inches (6.6 mm). They weigh only 27 g (0.95 oz), and are available in a surface mount version, the QL48S30, as well as in an industry-standard through-hole format, the QL48T30.
The QL48 converters meet the basic insulation requirements of EN60950 and come complete with vital industry-standard features, such as input under-voltage lockout, thermal shutdown, remote on/off, output voltage adjust pin, and output over-voltage, over-current and short-circuit protections.
