Overvoltage Protectors

Thu, 08/30/2001 - 9:29am
Bourns announced the launch of a new family of high current telecom surge protectors, which provides guaranteed 100 A 10/1000 and 200 A 9/720 overvoltage protection in the lowest height through-hole package currently available. The special package is pin compatible with competition modified TO-220, but is only two thirds of the height, making the TISP3xxxH3SL ideal for low profile cards to meet the impulse current requirement of ITU-T K20/21, FCC Part 68 and Telcordia GR-1089-CORE with no additional series resistance.

The TISP3xxxH3SL provides dual, bi-directional overvoltage protection with a comprehensive range of protection voltages from 70 V to 350 V, giving designers maximum flexibility in the protection of non-SMT telephone equipment, especially for exposed locations or where additional current safety margin is required.

The TISP3xxxH3SL is a monolithic circuit, using Bourns' ion implanted planar process to integrate multiple high current, voltage triggered bi-directional thyristors in a single chip. This ensures precise control and matching of trigger voltage for reliable protection, a low "on-state" voltage, and high holding current to avoid latch-up once the surge has been cleared. The TISP3xxxH3SL features low differential capacitance of less than 67 pF between -2 V and -50 V bias.
