Current-Sense Transformers

Mon, 08/20/2001 - 5:11am
Prem Magnetics has introduced two new standard printed circuit mount current-sense transformers for instrumentation applications. Designated the SPCT-250 and SPCT-251, these current-sense transformers have outputs that vary based on the termination or loading resistor on the secondary winding.

When a single turn is inserted through the window area of the transformers, the resulting turns ratio of 2000:1 allows the output to be calculated based on the input current. With an input current ranging from 0-20 Amps, output voltage tolerances vary slightly based on the loading resistor, but typically fall in the 3% to 8% range.

Constructed with commonly used laminations and a 3-flange bobbin, these units have an open section within the window area to allow up to a 0.160 inches diameter insulated conductor. Typical dimensions are 1.00 inches length × 0.920 inches width × 8.825 inches height. HIPOT rating from secondary winding core is 1,500 Vac.
