M3i adds new functionality to the large California Power System

LADWP fully realizes it needs to remain on the technical top shelf, whilst improving customer care and bottom line performance by streamlining its control room operations if it is to thrive in these turbulent times. PragmaCAD is an extremely sophisticated multi-service, multi-level dispatch engine designed to enable the LADWP Power Distribution control room to schedule, assign and reassign appointments, dispatch service vehicles and accurately track them by using 'bird's eye view' screen images of their service territory as well as Global Positioning System (GPS), all in real-time. The system will also help optimize workload levels and assignments by any or all combinations of job type, priority, location, crew expertise and availability, date and time. The software also allows field crews to report large volumes of customized data directly and accurately from the mobile terminals to the dispatch center.
The initial phase will see approximately 100 M3i Mobile Data Terminals (MDT) installed. The mobile applications, wireless data networks and computing platforms will all be supported by a common enterprise-wide Information Technology (IT) infrastructure. The terminals will have extensive user-configurable parameters to tailor them to each business unit's needs and will be in operation on a 24/7 basis. With their new system, crews will be able to complete approximately 300,000 power trouble calls annually.
The modules are easily adaptable to LADWP's anticipated rapid and frequent changes to work processes and will seamlessly interface to the utility's enterprise systems including their Customer Information System (CIS), Voice Response Unit (VRU), Work Management Information System (WMIS), and Facility Management System (FMS).
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is the largest municipally owned utility in the United States. It is responsible for the supply and distribution of water and electric power to 1.4 million customers in an area exceeding 460 square miles comprising the City of Los Angeles. The electrical network alone includes over 3,000 substations, 1,700 circuits, 25,000 switches, and 130,000 transformers.
