Low Noise, Low Dropout Voltage Regulator

ON Semiconductor announced the availability of a CMOS Low Noise, Low Dropout (LDO) voltage regulator designed to improve the performance of noise sensitive circuits in portable products.

Offered in the small SOT23 package, the NCP500 LDO regulator features a low dropout voltage, providing cost and space savings, while achieving its low-noise performance without the need of an external bypass capacitor.

Operating within a voltage range of 1.8 volts to 6.0 volts, the NCP500 offers very low dropout voltage (170 mV typ at 150 mA) and other performance features such as an enable pin and current and temperature limit protection circuits. ON Semiconductor offers the device in a five-lead SOT23 miniature footprint that is optimized for use in cellular handsets, handheld instruments, MP3 players and other portable consumer products. The company designed the device to work with small, low-cost ceramic capacitors and requires a minimum output capacitor of one microfarad. The NCP500 is offered with seven different output voltages: 1.8,2.5, 2.7,2.8 3.0, 3.3 and 5.0. All of the versions are available in a 5-lead SOT23 package. Suggested resale pricing for each orderable NCP500 device is $0.25 per 12,000 units.
