Feedthru Filters

Expanding circuit designers' options for EMI noise suppression, component manufacturer AVX offers a new family of ceramic chip components that combine capacitor and inductor elements in a single distributed constant circuit filter. Designated the W2F Series, these surface mountable chip filters are the latest addition to AVX's series of integrated passive components for EMI noise suppression in high-speed applications.

The W2F Series filters represent an ideal choice for EMI noise suppression, broadband I/O filtering or Vcc power line conditioning. Because of the unique construction of a feedthru capacitor, these chips provide low parallel inductance and offer excellent decoupling capabilities for all high di/dt environments while providing significant noise reduction in digital circuits up to nearly 5 GHz. These filters are the smallest in the industry and feature extremely high reliability.

Other applications for the EMI filter chips include power conditioning for RF amplifiers, power line filtering, optic circuitry, notebooks and PDAs. The W2F Series of EMI filters are rated at 100V and 300 mA with capacitance ratings ranging from 22 pF to 47,000 pF. These broadband filters feature typical attenuation offerings of 30db-60db across user-selected frequency spectrums. AVX's EMI filters also feature high current carrying capabilities from 330mA to 1A. Standard operating temperatures range from -55° to +125°C.

AVX also offers a W3F Series in a 1206 case size, as well as a four-element 1206 feedthru array. All filters in these series are available in NP0 and X7R dielectrics. Available in standard tape and reel packaging, the W2F Series filters are compatible with high-speed automated assembly equipment and wave and reflow soldering methods.
